The Gate Hotel is indeed the Gate to Tokyo
Literally across of the city’s oldest temple complex, Sensoji – the Gate Hotel is not only wonderfully located but has a lot more to offer to the world known traveler.
Arriving in the east of Tokyo changes quite a bit with the Skytree as the main orientation point which gets me to my favorite part of this hotel: the terrace with its B Bar that serves ice-cold drinks (Gin Tonic for me) and gives an amazing view of the surrounding city from Ginza to the Skytree.
It was the perfect escape after a day of walking around Tokyo trying the impossible: “to see it all”.
The rooms are designed with a minimalistic approach of dark grey colors and red accents which is a nice change from the hoi polloi that is Tokyo. Separate showers and my favorite – Japanese toilets are composed in a clean and efficient way. The cool thing about the whole hotel is that you have everything you need for an incredible price.
The interior is designed by famed architect Shigeru Uchida and features 136 rooms in 7 categories which you can best see from the hotel lobby that has an almost lofty feel to it with it’s all glass view, circular leather seating and abstract light composition.
The R Restaurant (on the lobby floor) offers a splendid health conscious breakfast with my favorite Eggs Benedict and even has raw honey directly from the honey comb.
At the end of each month there is a live Jazz night which i unfortunately missed but maybe one of you guys will see it.
I had a splendid stay and hope to see more of the Gate Hotel franchise in the future with the next one coming to Ginza in 2018
